Family Source Consultants is pleased to offer this wonderful option for Surrogates who choose to work with a Doula. The reality of Surrogacy is that oftentimes, the Intended Parents and the Surrogate do not live nearby. We feel it is most important that the match is made based on many other important factors, not proximity alone, and because of this, it is not unusual to find that matches are made between parties in different states, or even different countries (when International Intended Parents are working with United States Surrogates). In these cases, in particular, it may be important to you, the Surrogate, to have a partner along side as all of you plan and prepare for the delivery. Even if everybody does live in the same state, there are many benefits to utilizing the services of a Doula. For Intended Parents, you will know that your Surrogate is given the utmost personal attention, especially towards the final stages of her pregnancy, and that she is being assisted by someone who will give her comfort and support as she plans for the delivery of your baby or babies. Family Source Consultants is working with a network of knowledgeable, passionate and dedicated Doulas in Illinois and throughout the United States. What is a Doula?

The word Doula (doo-la) comes from Greek and is translated to “woman servant.” A Doula is a professionally trained, non-medical person who assists a woman physically and emotionally during childbirth. She provides information so that the mother (or in this case, Gestational Surrogate) may make informed decisions during pregnancy, labor and delivery, and postpartum.*

Explanation and Benefits of Doula Services:

One free, no obligation consultation, to see if Surrogate and Doula are a fit (may talk over the phone or meet at a location of Surrogate’s choice.)
Two to three prenatal visits to discuss the Surrogate’s and Intended Parents’ birth vision and decide how Surrogate will work with the Doula to achieve everyone’s goals
Doula will provide information so that Surrogate and Intended Parents can make informed decisions
Doula will be available to help with birth plan preparation
Phone and email contact with Doula before, during, and after birth
Doulas will be on call for Surrogate 24/7 beginning two weeks before the due date
Emotional, physical, and informational support before, during, and after birth from a professional who understands and trusts the birth process
Doula provides non-medical pain relief and position suggestions throughout labor
At least one postpartum visit within the first 10 days
Additionally: Some of the Doula packages include infant massage teaching. For Intended Parents who are interested in this feature (and this is workable location-wise) please let us know and we will help to arrange for you.
